BELTINCI

The typically Pannonian municipality of Beltinci lies on the left
bank of the Mur on the Prekmurje plain. It consists of: Beltinci,
Bratonci, Dokležovje, Gančani, Ižakovci, Lipa, Lipovci and Melinci.
The central town is Beltinci which has held the right to hold
markets since the year 1811.

The Beltinci municipality sits in a region that is well-
balanced geographically with its natural features and
diverse cultural heritage together with folkloristic
interests and traditions and a well-developed
infrastructure for tourism. In Beltinci and the surrounding
area traditional handicraft is still much in evidence
today including straw plaiting in Lipovci, the production
of clay bricks in Melinci, cooperage in Gančani, the hand
production of wooden troughs in Beltinci, handmade
mill products, the cultivation and manufacture of fl ax in
Ižakovci and the Mur river bank reinforcement by means
of a method called Büjraši, likewise in Ižakovci.
There are some interesting events that
conserve customs and traditions. These
include the International Folklore
Festival, the days of the Büjraši and
brick-makers, rides on old bicycles,
boat trips on the Mur or putting up the
maypole. And in Beltinci, folk music is
alive and well, and the accompaniment
for many an activity and cultural event.
Music groups (bands), Tamburizza
groups and choirs all uphold local
musical traditions.
