The district capital town of Weiz, a town rich in energy, is in many ways a centre for energy for living. History:
Weiz was first mentioned in a document of 1188, in 1850 it became the district centre and in 1932 it received its town charter. When ELIN was founded at the begining of the 20th century, Weiz became a centre for the electro industry whose products were sent out all over the world - today under the company names Elin, Andritz or Siemens. This lovely little town with 9,300 inhabitants is to the present-day a strongly industrial centre, that is continuing to develop in innovative and dynamic ways.

Weiz is the centre of the energy region, is located in the midst of the hills of East Styria and is distinctive for its fascinating countryside, including highlights such as the Raab Gorge or the stalactite caves. Weiz, the energy town, is also a good place to shop especially in the town centre where there are plenty of shops and a good choice of products. And what could be better after a shopping spree than to treat yourself to some good food - home-style cooking with delicacies from the entire region.

When you see Weiz you will quickly discover the wide range of evidence of energy for living. And as you glance across at the town you may also find you are taking in some history: it is not just the buildings in the old town that are worth seeing, there is also the Baroque pilgrimage church on Weizberg hill.

Weiz is one of 12 showcases on the "energy road" leading to Slovenia where renewable energy sources are showcased for people interested in the realities and practicalities and looking to future energy solutions.
Art & Culture:
Art does not ebb and flow with the seasons but is there all year round and it has a home. The range is immense: from literature to painting, sculpture, installation and object art.
The modern art centre with its Frank Stronach room and town gallery at the centre of the old town together with the Weberhaus and many other cultural spaces in Weiz offer plenty of room for creative events, exhibitions and all kinds of performances.
