Fehring's geographical position puts it at the heart of the Styrian thermal spa and wine country; accessible within a radius of a 35-minute drive are 7 thermal spas. And there are 18 rustic inns alone that are members of the Fehring wine growers' society - welcome to the region for culinary enjoyment, and its volcanic countryside, the Styrian "Vulkanland"!
Overview:
Situated at the edge of the Raab valley in South East Styria, Fehring's position at the border meant that it was ever prey to war and conflict. To this very day you can still see the remnants of the Tabor, fortifications from the 15th to 17th centuries. In 1962 the settlement got its town charter and this delightful little town was able to retain much of its old charm. The high quality of life here is also attributable to the glorious countryside in the immediate vicinity. Excellent wines are produced at vineyards that flourish on the volcanic hills around Fehring; a visit to one of the many rustic inns will suffice to convince you of this.
The two hikers' tracks, "Genusstour" and the "Buschenschankrunde" for rustic inns take you to this the highest and perhaps also most beautiful of municipal areas.
But most of all, the thousands of visitors who are attracted to Fehring every year to enjoy all its cultural innovations are evidence that it is indeed the "secret cultural capital of the Raab valley".
Kellerstöckl hoamsuachn:
At this event every year in the middle of May, thousands of visitors set off on a culinary walk around the Fehring Kuruzzenkogel and its romantic street of wine cellars, the Kellergassl. And along the way - on what is called the mile of culinary delights, the largest in South East Styria - visitors are treated to regional delicacies and folk music.
Gerberhaus Cultural Centre:
With the award-winning renovation of the Fehring Gerberhaus a cultural centre was created that knows no limits. Come and see our exhibition "NORDBERG - the way to outer space" from 16.04.10 until 31.10.2010, the story of space research and the contribution of Fehring's own Dr.Willi Nordberg, who was a leading member of the team that developed the first weather satellite.
"29th South East Styria Thermal Spa Wine Days":
The best wine growers in the region get together from 30.07.10 until 01.08.2010, to present their own special wines. Those who are extra cautious by nature will beware of the romantic mood in the "Weindorf" on the main square in Fehring. Many an unwary guest has become prey to the atmosphere of Fehring.
„Must & Jazz":
In May for the 12th time, jazz fans will meet from 08.09.10 till 12.09.10 in local inns (Wednesday - Saturday) and on the Fehring main square (Sunday) to see out the summer with culinary treats and music. This festival that has now reached international status has always had as its aim the bringing together of local musicians with international guests in a non-elitist and family-friendly way.
